About Me:

My name is Michael, but everyone calls me Mike.  I am from a small Bavarian-themed tourist trap known as Leavenworth, WA, which was nearly consumed by forest fire last summer.  I have a generally pleasant personality, unless I am deprived of several things: my fly rod, fine cigars, quality coffee or alcohol.  Without these simple things, I find it impossible to lead a normal life.  I view myself as a social elite, despite all evidence to the contrary.

I am very outgoing in most situations, unless they involve math, sports or females.   Then, I become introverted and disastrously shy.  My level of maturity seems to be above most of my peers, which explains why they all think I’m an asshole.   I suffer from chronic dissatisfaction, cynicism and contempt for idiocy.  My flame of optimism and idealism was almost completely extinguished midway through my sophomore year, upon learning that two "honorable" cadets broke into the C-store and liberated thousands of dollars in Rolex watches.

My hobbies include fly-fishing, hunting and enjoying the finer things in life, such as handmade cigars and wine.  My opportunity for enjoyment is diminishing daily thanks in part to Congress and certain groups of loudmouth health nuts.  I find it impossible to smoke a fine cigar without enduring cold stares and nasty comments by said loudmouths.  However, I do my best to enjoy what few pleasures remain available.

I plan to get commissioned into the U.S. Army on June 1st, 2002 as an Armor officer.  I don’t know how long this Army business will last, but they have me for at least 5 years.  I am planning to be stationed at Ft. Carson, CO after a short stink at Ft. Knox, KY.  I plan to get married after promotion to Captain (3 years from commissioning).  I already know whom I am going to marry, but she has no idea.  I’ve got less than 4 years to make it happen, although my aforementioned shyness is quickly destroying my chances.   I plan on moving somewhere in the West where I can open my own fly-fishing shop and race my sports cars.

On the Environment: I am a conservationist at heart, and feel that the environment is something to be treasured and cared for. I love the outdoors, and I try to spend as much time in nature as I can.  I am a member of Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  I religiously practice catch-and-release fishing, but more for myself than for the fish.

On Academics: I study history.  I am a member of Phi Alpha Theta, and I am totally fascinated with the Vietnam War.  I plan on doing in-depth studies on the subject, and someday authoring several books.

On Music: I despise techno music and its culture.  Rap music is destroying our society.  I listen to classical music, along with rock and country.

On Money: I have none.  The current status of our economy is quickly eroding my financial plans, and I may have to put off buying that Porsche 911 Turbo for a few more years.  However, I have several investments, which once the economy turns around, should put me on Easy Street.

E-mail me.
